"I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them. " *
So spoke Clara Barton around 1864, in the thick of the Civil War. From being the "lady in charge" of the hospitals on the front line to later organizing the Red Cross, she was a true American humanitarian. So that she may imortalized and honored, these cast iron doorknobs were produced around 1875. They feature her in profile, with hair tucked beneath a cap and a pleasant, almost Mona-Lisa smile. We include two beautifully detailed antique cast iron triangular rosettes.
This is an extremely collectible set and a true, vivid example of 19th century Americana.
Clara Barton Doorknobs measure 2 1/8" in diameter. Rosettes are 2 5/8" wide and 4 1/8" tall.
